The HC-05 adds Bluetooth Classic (2.0) UART communication to any Arduino or microcontroller project, enabling wireless serial communication with Android apps, laptops, and other Bluetooth devices up to 10 metres away.
The HC-05 can operate in both master and slave modes — it can initiate connections to other Bluetooth devices, not just receive them. The HC-06 is slave-only and cheaper, but limited. For most Arduino-to-Android app projects, either works. For Arduino-to-Arduino wireless or connecting to a laptop, use HC-05.
