The L298N is India's most-used motor driver module for robotics and automation projects. It drives two DC motors independently (forward, reverse, speed via PWM) or one stepper motor, handling up to 2A per channel and 5–35V motor voltage.
Microcontrollers like Arduino output 5V logic signals — far too weak to drive a motor directly. The L298N acts as an amplifier between your Arduino and the motors, translating logic signals into high-current motor commands. The onboard 5V regulator can also power your Arduino when the motor supply is 7V or above.
Connect to Arduino Uno or ESP32, wire two gear motors, and you have a complete 2-wheel drive robot base. Add an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor for obstacle avoidance. This combination powers 80% of Indian engineering college robotics projects.
